How does an unloader knee brace work?

Updated: Feb 18, 2019

The X-Ray on the left shows a patient with a diagnosis of knee osteoarthritis. The area within the circle shows the patient's knee is bone-on-bone on the medial compartment.

In the middle image, you see Ossur's Unloader One knee brace. The arrows indicate how the brace applies forces to mechanically change how the knee bears weight when standing and walking.

The X-Ray on the right shows the same knee while the patient is wearing the Unloader One knee brace. The area within the circle shows how the brace has transferred the load off the affected part of the knee.
